The wind is strengthening. Autumn is clenching the city in its fist. Out seeps distilled emotions.
Julia Holter - World
...in which Julia Holter pulls off the trick that is making the lyric "all the hats of the world" sound both mesmerizing and full of meaning.
Julianna Barwick - The Harbinger
Listen to those piano chords heavily settling into place, making the song sway like a treehouse in an October storm.
Sigur Rós - Brennistein
Sigur Rós mix up the ethereal with some menace and violence. It's a glorious punch. They hit me and it felt like a kiss – to paraphrase
the Crystals.
Darkside - Heart
Darkside again? Yes, it is that good.
Shane Carruth - As If It Would Have a Universal and Memorable Ending
When I watched
the film, I felt certain it had to be another of
Cliff Martinez' masterful soundtracks. I lingered in the cinema to have it confirmed by the end credits, but nothing there. On the internet I discovered that despite the sonic similarities to Cliff it was in fact another string on the lyre for the writer, director, and lead actor of the film. The title of the track makes me think of pigs. Watch the film.
